Mormon leader ousted in rare excommunication
The Mormon church excommunicated one of its senior leaders Tuesday, without providing a reason for the rare dismissal. The removal of James Hamula as a "general authority" of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the first time a top leader had been ousted in nearly 30 years, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. The Mormon Church is headquartered Salt Lake City, Utah.

Doug LaMalfa, from California, a conservative stalwart in a solidly red district, got into a heated exchange with an attendee of a town hall meeting in Chico this week. Mr LaMalfa countered that “people across the board are being hurt by this” existing law, according to the Times.
Canadian officials back in North Korea to discuss imprisoned pastor
Canadian officials have traveled to North Korea to discuss the case of a Canadian pastor serving a life sentence there, a spokesman for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday. Hyeon Soo Lim, who served at one of the largest churches in Canada, was sentenced to hard labor for life in December 2015 for what North Korea says was an attempt to overthrow the regime. The delegation is headed by Daniel Jean, Trudeau's national security advisor.
