Georgia set to carry out its 1st execution this year
JACKSON, Ga. (AP) — Georgia was set to carry out its first execution this year: that of a man convicted of killing a 73-year-old neighbor 25 years ago. But hours after the planned execution time, the nation's highest court hadn't yet weighed in on the inmate's request for a stay.
